A barcode, consisting of bars and spaces, is a machine-readable representation of numerals and characters. Barcodes are unique to each product or merchandise and are ubiquitous.

In Better Clinics, the barcode assigned to a product or variant can be used to search for a product from the product list as well as to scan when POS is open. The barcode for merchandise items is manually entered in settings and is unique for each account i.e. no other products of this user can have this same barcode.

To Enter a Barcode:

  1. Go to Settings > Product > Product List

  2. Select a pre-existing merchandise item or select 'Add Product'

  3. In the product details box, enter the barcode in the adjacent box as can be seen below.

  4. Click Save.

Each variants can also have a barcode assigned to it.

How to Scan a Product:

The barcode reader is a hardware device connected to a computer by cord or Bluetooth that sends decoded barcode strings into the computer.

  1. Just before reading the barcode, proper input element, such as INPUT TEXT FIELD (Barcode field) must be focused .

  2. Read the code (the barcode reader will make a sound). When the code is recognized it is sent to the focused input field.

    1. By default, most barcode readers will append extra character's to decode a barcode string. Better Clinics support's both ~ symbol and ENTER keys.

  3. In the POS screen when a barcode of a valid product is scanned it will be automatically added to the cart. Subsequent scanning of the same product will result in increasing the quantity of the product in the cart.
